A recent job posting on the Boxee website indicates that the New York company is looking for an iPad and iPhone app developer to be the first member of Boxee’s new Mobile Applications Team Dell latitude d520 battery . The company is looking for a coder with Objective-C expertise (a language used on Mac OS X and the iPhone OS) and at least one published app in the Apple app store.

The job posting also notes “Android development experience a plus”–it looks like Boxee doesn’t plan on limiting Dell FK890 battery to the iPad and the iPhone. The Boxee software will play videos and music stored on your hard drive, as well as content from other sources–including Netflix, Youtube, Shoutcast, Last. fm, Picasa, CNN, and, up until last year, Hulu. All of this, and more, is accessible through an attractive interface to inspiron 1525 battery that can be navigated with a remote. As for the social media angle–Boxee allows users to share what they’re watching–and their recommendations–with other Boxee users.

The Boxee set-top box, which is manufactured by D-Link, costs $200 and will be available in the second quarter of 2010. The box connects to the internet via Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet Dell GK479 , and connects to users’ TV’s via HDMI, optical cables, or RCA cables (it features 1080p output). In March 2009 Boxee released a free iPhone app that turns iPhones into remote controls for Boxee. But an app that streams video would definitely be a Boxee first–mainly because Boxee simply points to Dell inspiron 1545 battery , and aggregates, video from internet sources such as Youtube. Boxee is a browser, not a host–something that will need to change if Boxee wants to make an iPad or iPhone app (since neither device supports Flash). see more : Sony laptop battery

Apple’s iPad was destined to stimulate a response from Amazon, and that response has been swift and effective. Beginning even before the launch of the iPad, Amazon has obviously developed a strategy designed to maintain the Kindle’s position as e-reader of choice. How will Apple respond to this kick in the teeth? It had to happen. Apple’s foray into the eBook market with its iPad had to get a reaction from Amazon, but nobody quite expected the severity of this reaction.

Amazon has responded amazingly strongly and in several different ways. 1. Kindle Apps Prior to the iPad launch, Amazon made the announcement of the opening of an applications store, and an invitation for developers to come up with apps in the same way that they did for the iPhone and the iPad. This was an apparent attempt to offer the Kindle as a genuine competitor to the iPad. Without some other use of the Kindle other than as a dedicated e-reader, Amazon knew that it was destined to suffer a knock-out blow from Apple. It is not easy to fight Apple’s commercial and financial resources, but it can be done given the right strategy.

One tactic of that strategy is to emulate what Apple has achieved in the versatility of their products, and by developing applications for the Kindle, Amazon is doing that: and taking the first step on the road to genuine multimedia capability for the Kindle. This might conceivably be the beginning of a larger war between the two giants, involving not only eBooks, but also music, movies and all the other miscellaneous applications that have come to be associate with the iPhone and, no doubt, the iPad. 2. DRM Drop-Out Amazon made DRM optional for publishers. With iBooks locked by FairPlay, Amazon’s DRM opt-out means that users can port their eBooks to other e-readers. DRM is now optional for publishers, and while that is not a great advance for the majority of Kindle owners, it is for the smaller publishers who will now have more of an incentive to market the Kindle.

It is one more in the eye for Apple, and another small advantage that Amazon is trying to gain over the iPad. According to the article “An Introduction to Popular E-book File Formats”, with its own Digital Rights Management structure AZW format protects the e-book publishers and authors from possible piracy and is loosely based on Mobipocket’s popular MOBI file format (Digital Book Readers). 3. Price Maintenance Amazon took steps to protect the low prices of Kindle eBooks by maintaining a maximum price of $9. 99 on all its publications. It is the only e-reader that does not allow publishers to apply higher pricing, and it responded to Macmillan’s pressure by removing all that publishers products from its virtual library.

Yes, Amazon has stated that these will be reinstated, but that has yet to happen, and Macmillan meantime has been subject to insults from Amazon on public forums. This move was likely made in response to criticism that eBooks are too expensive in relation to their production costs and overheads. By sustaining a price ceiling of $9. 99, Amazons maintains a level of competitiveness that other e-readers will find it hard to match, including Apple. 4. Touchco Acquisition Each of the above three will have an influence on the outcome of the bout between Amazon and Apple, but much more significant is Amazon’s acquisition of Touchco, the e-paper and touchscreen technology firm. This appears to be Amazon’s ace in the hole, and the acquisition must have come as shock and a blow to Apple. Touchco had been working on a true multi-touch screen to work with e-paper that enables unlimited simultaneous touches to be detected.

Combined with the Mirasol multi-color technology on e-paper, this offers Amazon the ability to create a multi-touch color tablet device that could very easily not only compete with the iPad, but also exceed its technological capability. It is definitely a big one in Apple’s eye, and the gloves are definitely off now. The acquisition took place very secretively and quietly, and nobody had an inclination of what was going on. It is hard to believe that Apple was unaware of it, but it sure seems that way. Round 1 might have been Apple’s, but Amazon has certainly won rounds 2, 3 and 4, although knowing Apple’s resilience and resources, certainly not with knockout blows. The Touchco technology might have been used with e-paper to develop cell phones, music players and a whole host of possible applications, but that is now lost in Amazon’s fight with Apple for the e-reader market. Sometimes it is time for corporations to focus on their core business, because this type of infighting almost invariably ends up with no winners and the public the losers. However, what can we look for in the near future? Likely an expansion of the Kindle, or a variant, as an iPad competitor, and almost certainly the demise of the clunky E Ink and the development of a sleeker display medium. Watch this space and get ready for round 5, because Apple will certainly not take this lying down!

If the windows in your home are worn-out, run-down and drafty, you’re throwing money, well, out the window. With Winter here, and utility rate increases driving home heating costs higher than ever, windows that have deterioratedor worse yet, been improperly installedcan be costing homeowners thousands of dollars per year. With natural gas prices predicted to increase this Winter, now is a perfect time to inspect your windows. It is time to replace your windows when they no longer serve their purposekeeping the heat in during Winter and the cold in during Summer. If you think that drafty windows are only costing you a few dollars a month on your heating bills, think again.

According to a study conducted by the U. S. Department of Energy, by converting from single-pane to double-pane clear glass windows, an average homeowner can cut his or her heating bill by as much as 25 percent. By converting to argon filled, double-pane windows with a low-E coating, the heating bill could be cut as much as 35 percent. When considering the long-term return on your investment (homeowners can expect to recoup a significant portion of the cost of replacement windows), you could easily be looking at thousands of dollars saved in less than five years.

How do you tell if your windows no longer work and need to be replaced? According to Stanford Blanck, co-owner of Taylor-based Wallside Windows, a manufacturer and installer of vinyl replacement windows, energy efficiency in windows is a result of two factorsthe window frame and the window glass. Blanck, who has more than 30 years of window replacement experience, said the following areas are what to look for: The condition of the window frames If your windows are loose and rattling, it means the sash and channels have deteriorated, and the window is no longer sealed properly. A loose sash means that the window’s life is overit needs to be replaced. Also, if you can actually feel air drafts around the window, whether in winter or summer, the window is not doing what it’s supposed to do it is time to replace it. Rotting wood and peeling paint are results of condensationa sign that the windows no longer work properly. If the frames are aluminum, you might consider replacing them with wood or vinyl.

According to Blanck, aluminum is a conductive metal, and does a poor job of keeping heat in the house. Aluminum frames are found mainly on older houses, and are rarely installed anymore. The window glass Windows today are far superior to the single-pane windows of years past. “Simply put, if you have single-pane windowseven if the frames are in perfect conditionyou should replace the glass,” Blanck said. “Single-pane windows are costing you money. ” Why? “Energy efficiency,” Blanck noted. How well windows keep heat in and cold out is measured by something known as the U-Factorthe lower the U-Factor, the more energy efficient the glass. The U-Factor for a single pane of glass is 1. 30. Adding another pane of glass by installing a double-pane window reduces the U-Factor to . 49, meaning heat loss is cut by more than half.

If the double-pane window has a low emissions coating, the U-Factor drops to . 34. And if the space between the windows is filled with an inert gas, such as argon, the U-Factor is reduced even further. “The best window is the one that is installed properly” But the single most important factor in window efficiency, according to Blanck, is installation. “No matter how well a window is made,” he said, “if it is not installed correctly, you bought a problem, not a solution. ” If windows are not fitted correctly or properly installed, an excessive amount of the home’s heat can be lost through even the slightest breach or opening. To ensure proper installation, hire a professional. A good rule of thumb is to seek out window companies that have been in business at least as long their guarantee. Remember, no matter how expensive your windows or how great they look in the showroom, you’re wasting your money if they’re not installed properly in your home.

This is the era of animations, graphics and visual effects. Depictions of the fantastic flying superheroes, ferocious velociraptors and battling starships rely on software to maintain the audiences suspension of disbelief. Even the most realistic movies call on animators to simulate an un-gettable shot or to make a moment just a smidge more perfect. The most modern of all the arts, cinema is fittingly the most reliant on science and technology. The 20th centurys dominant art form was born out of the 19th century predilection for machinery, movement, optical illusion and public entertainment.

Films history is a labyrinth of discoveries, inventions, part-solutions and failures in the context of visual effects. The progress that filmmakers have made in creating and using the latest technology has phenomenally influenced the film industry and the cinematic experience. This has caused films to evolve over the years with each progressing idea, technology and technique, allowing film makers to bring their vision to life more accurately, precisely and convincingly to the big screen. The development of technology has affected an extremely wide array of areas concerning film, including the production process, the way films are viewed, how the films are distributed, and even how they are promoted. In the pioneering days, three different processes had to be combined to create the movies.

The first process was to work on and enhance gadgets that made little drawings seemingly come alive with motion. These began out as simple flick-page drawings and silhouette puppetry, before moving on to more technical approaches such as devices that exploited persistence of vision to give impressions of moving pictures. In 1880 Emile Reynaud had invented such a machine, praxinoscope, which projected seemingly moving paintings onto a screen. The second necessary step was to merge these gadgets with the science of photography. In 1889 Thomas Edison, and his associate William Dickson, created kinetoscope, which used moving imagery and photography. The catch was that to see the show, a viewer had to peep through an opening in the device. The third step was to project the moving photographs onto a wall. Later, two French brothers, Louis and Auguste Lumiere, created the first practical machine that combined all three steps mentioned, and they called it cinematograph.

But it was not until 1894 that such creations were open to the paying public when parlours, called nickelodeons (because it cost customers a nickel to watch short animations) began to open. With the age of inventions and the path laid, man was spurred on to continue developing such mechanisms. New ideas brought about better cameras that captured more realistic photographs to animate, and improved lenses and bulbs to send out quick flickers of light to trick the eye further and create smooth moving motion. Moving photographs, then moved onto celluloid strips. With this discovery, possibilities became practically endless; companies began to form and the art of filmmaking began to spread further and further across the globe. However, there were still large limitations with such movies such as the length of time they could be displayed.

The process of animation radically changed as did live action films when yet more tools were introduced. By using line drawings and a camera to take a picture frame-by-frame before playing it all back in a sequence, animation was created. To make drawings move, a cartoonist ideally had to produce 24 drawings for every second of screen time and a 10 minute cartoon thus needed 14,400 different drawings. Later, by using layers of transparent celluloid, backgrounds and characters could be used again and again with only the moving parts of the character having to be redrawn. In the early stage, graphics, animation and VFX were used to evoke moods, feelings or fantasy. But later, as the technology grew, companies and departments were created to combat against the competition. Today, hundreds of people can end up working on one project creating a hierarchy that includes studio bosses, executive producers, directors, technical directors, script writers, cameramen and editors as well as the cast of the production. These people are constantly improving and adopting technology and it is possible that it may not stop until they achieve a perfect result. It is courtesy these animations that realistic dinosaurs have attacked in Jurassic Park, hundreds of animals have rampaged through city streets in Jumanji, and alien spacecraft have blown up major places on the planet in Independence Day. By integrating VFX and using special rendering software, computers have also made it possible to mimic dangerous scenarios and natural disasters like meteor showers in Armageddon or tornadoes in Twister that look like the real thing but bring no danger or harm to the actors.

Some films, such as The Matrix, had call for creating new techniques such as their bullet time method using multiple surrounding cameras that were then refined with computer software to create a rotating, shadowed, slow motion effect. For The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the programmer created Massive a special-effects programme that allowed thousands of unique animated characters to have a mind of their own when thrown into combat for the battle scenes. Audiences could swear that these animated characters were real actors what with their body types, clothing, and the weather conditions in the scene all influencing their individual capabilities and decisions. Animations are not just solely for extra characters, scenes or effects in live action films. There have been several feature-length films that were created entirely within computers such as Toy story and A bugs life.

Although they were a new concept and extremely impressive when they first came to the big screen, when we look back at them now, we understand how much technology is still advancing. The first Toy Story paled in comparison to its sequel, Toy Story 2, which illustrated a distinct improvement with better rendering and effects relating to everything from the main characters to the backgrounds and lighting. Animated movies like Monsters Inc, Ice Age and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within move the point further by exhibiting more visually stunning graphics. Today, hundreds of people can end up working on one project creating a hierarchy that includes studio bosses, executiveproducers, directors, technical directors, script writers, cameramen and editors as well as the cast of the production.

These people are constantly improving and adopting technology and it is possible that it may not stop until they achieve a perfect result. Eventually, the animations, graphics and VFXs job of evoking moods, feelings or fantasy has taken a back seat; the growing technology has affected demand, quality and content of the actual product and the way it is produced and viewed. The future of the film is greatly entwined with the future of technology and the consequences are not certain. Although it has given many positive results, it could be argued that filmmakers should remember their roots and not fall prey to using technology just for the sake of it or a quick solution. Nevertheless, it is without any doubt that the industry will continue to grow and change, as technology to create and enjoy becomes more accessible and advanced. And looking back at how much film and cinema has changed, it is quite probable that its future cannot even be imagined now.

Neighbours tale Bollywood has finally come to terms with the power of computers. Indian filmmakers are jumping on the VFX bandwagon to cut cost and give some, if not tough, competition to Hollywood. Suddenly animation has become the current flavour and whos who of the film world is succumbing to its charm. In the genre of animation, it was the mythology that initially started. And now, even the king of romance, Yash Chopra, is choosing animation to reclaim his turf of romance by coming out with Roadside Romeo. Even Karan Johar, is making an animation out of his magnum opus Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Nonetheless, Indian filmmakers seem to have finally woken up to the charms of computer-generated VFX. Gradually, more films are using VFX for a variety of reasons. Rakesh Roshan provided the initial thrust with his science-fiction thriller Koi Mil Gaya. Since then, VFX has played a role in almost all big-budget films like Dhoom, Guru, Jodhaa Akbar, Race and others.

The technique is coming up in a big way in India. Over the past two to three years, filmmakers have shown readiness to experiment and explore new possibilities. Advantage of animation lies in the fact that you need not require location shooting, so the film can be wrapped up pretty fast. The most common reason that filmmakers give for not really going the whole VFX way is that it is quite a costly affair. While in Hollywood films VFX could account for over 50 per cent of the total cost of production, it barely touches 10 per cent in rare cases in India. Are Indian VFX studios lacking in terms of technology usage? Not really. Almost all major studios in India are using high-end systems, and in fact, India is one of the fastest growing markets. There is also a big reason why Indian studios are at par with Hollywood studios, thanks to the marvel of outsourcing: A lot of Hollywood films are outsourcing their graphic-intensive work to studios in India.

Films like Spiderman 3, Chronicles of Narnia, Superman Returns, and others have seen Indian studios contributing to them. This has brought Indian studios on the same technology platform, and slowly, this is percolating to domestic studios as well. Future unveiled A famous incident that suitably highlights how much technology has advanced and the ways it has been used within film, is the creation of Star Wars sagas. It was reported in The Making of Star Wars Special Edition that the writer and director, George Lucas, had problems working towards his original vision due to the technological limits as well as time and monitory issues. To get around these problems he had to create his own digital effects house (Industrial Light and Magic) and sound companies (THX and Skywalker Sound) because what he wanted just did not exist at that time. New techniques had to be thought up and a prototype had to be worked with; and although the film was highly successful, Lucas was still not fully satisfied, but at the time there was nothing he could do. Exactly twenty years later technology had advanced to a stage where it allows Lucasfilm to return to the original trilogy of films and digitally master them with improved sound and visual effects so they would be closer to Lucas original plans. The film negatives were cleaned up and restored and new scenes and musical scores were added. Now, dynamic camera shots could be made, sparse and uninteresting sets now expanded into thriving cities with larger and more detailed backgrounds, key creatures were enhanced to emit more emotion towards the viewer, and many new background characters were digitally inserted to create more activity and the correct atmosphere.

The touchscreen function on smartphones is spreading to large devices The touchscreen function on Apple’s iPhone and other smartphones is spreading to larger computing devices like the new iPad , making it a popular feature among consumers. In a report released yesterday, Gartner forecast that only 10% of Dell inspiron b130 battery desktops, laptops and tablets used by knowledge workers in 2015 will have touchscreens, up from almost zero today. For the past 20 years or so, tablet and personal computers with touch and pen (or stylus) input capablities were used strictly in specific vertical industries, such as health care, retail and field service. Kiosks with touchscreens have become widely available as well, but those are designed mostly for use by a company’s customers, not its workers. The success of multi-touch features on various smartphones and the introduction of the iPad tablet has set off speculation that touchscreens could spread quickly to corporate users, Gartner noted on Dell inspiron 1545 battery.

Currently, Fiering said some school districts are already seeking to buy touch and pen-input in a single device, since pen-input can be used to annotate detailed class material. In addition, low-cost touchscreen-enabled devices could be targeted at young children entering school, allowing them to see direct manipulation of icons on a screen as a natural way to interact with a computer, she said. the technology faces slow adoption in industry at least partly due to “adoption barriers” caused by large numbers of today’s workers accustomed to using a Dell inspiron 2200 battery keyboard and mouse, Gartner said. Gartner added that as many as 75% of its school district clients will likely be looking to buy touch and pen-input computers within five years. “Consider this as the precursor to a major upcoming generational shift in how users relate to their computing devices,” Fiering said. With the “expected widespread adoption of touch by education

An entire generation will graduate within the next 10 to 15 years for whom touch input is totally natural. ” For business users, progress toward touch capabilities will evolve incrementally, rather than burst forward because of some killer app, Fiering predicted. “As with many recent Dell inspiron 5150 battery technology advances, touch adoption will be led by consumers and only gradually get accepted by the enterprise,” she said. see more : Toshiba laptop battery

VoIP Management Support for Small Businesses VoIP has evolved to a point where businesses need to develop a formal approach to VoIP management. By developing a management approach, businesses can pursue large production deployments. VoIP management strategies should include:

1) Planning and assessing. This phase is to determine whether the network infrastructure is sufficient to support telephony and if upgrades in the network are required.

2) Pre-deployment testing. Stimulating the production environment is essential. Network managers should use active testing tools to generate video, synthetic voice and data traffic. Measuring the quality, network and protocol performance become part of the VoIP management program. Network managers should also use passive monitoring to gauge their ability to monitor the voice quality and the infrastructure.

3) Ongoing operations. Monitoring the production environment is key in VoIP management. Network managers should also assess performance of the network and identify faults. Active testing for service assurance and passive monitoring for performance troubleshooting needs to be conducted regularly.

4) Optimization. Managers need to gather data from all available sources to generate reports. Managers should use this information to assess the performance of the infrastructure. This is a continuation of the pre-deployment testing. Testing the production environment to ensure the network supports increase traffic and new applications is important in VoIP management. Managers must optimize capacity of IP networks, ports, gateways and PSTN interconnects. Having a solid VoIP management plan is crucial in maximizing the capabilities VoIP technologies can bring to your business. DrVoIP represents a team of Cisco, ShoreTel and Microsoft certified engineers led by a recognized industry leader with 40 years of telecommunications experience.

ANOTHER TECHNO buzz that is making rounds all across is the new phone launched by Apple – the Apple iPad. The Apple iPad which is marketed by Apple as “most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device,” comes out as the best that both price and technology can offer. The device comes up with various unique features which no other Apple phones enjoy.

The large Multi-Touch screen on Apple iPad lets the user watch web pages as they were meant to be seen on computers with amazing picture quality and sharp text. Another amazing feature is that the touch screen device needs no electronic pencil, but a finger is all it takes to give instructions. E-mailing becomes more easier with Apple iPad, as users can save the photos in an email directly to the built-in Photos app and will work with all the popular email providers, including Mobile Me, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail and AOL.

In addition, Apple also announced a new version of iWork desktop-class productivity suite for the iPad, which includes Pages, Keynote and Numbers apps that have been completely redesigned for Apple iPad, allowing users to create incredible presentations with animations and transitions, word processing documents, and spreadsheets with charts, functions and formulas by directly touching the words and images on the Multi-Touch display. iWork will costs $9. 99. The answer to that gap, at least for Apple, is the iPad. It’s essentially a giant iPod touch/iPhone (iPhone) with a 9. 7-inch screen, 16 to 64 GB of memory, and the ability to run almost every iPhone app in the App Store. It can connect via USB to sync with your PC or Mac, play HD video, act an ebook reader and a lot more.

This whole new kind of device comes with a large, high-resolution LED-backlit IPS display and an incredibly responsive Multi-Touch screen, with an amazingly powerful Apple-designed chip. All in a design that’s thin and light enough to take anywhere. The launch has created awareness about the phone but still could not convert buyers. An online electronic consumer shopping site reveals that survey has found an increase in the percentage of buyers who would like to buy i-Pad from 3 per cent to 9 per cent.
